44th Annual Conference and Trade Show Yes, we’ve been holding this conference for 44 years! Twelve government purchasing agents met in 1967 and formed a committee to establish this association. They were men of vision who should always have a special place in our hearts. The first conference was held in Orlando from April 28 – May 1, 1968. Our theme for the 44th conference is “Committed to Integrity and Professionalism.” I chose this theme to emphasize the high level of public trust we must uphold in our positions that can only be achieved through integrity and professionalism. We are buffeted by corruption charges against politicians and government personnel on a frequent basis. We must battle the public perception “that they all do it” because nothing could be further from the truth. I’d like each member to review our Code of Ethics because it is the foundation of our existence. Conference Registration We will begin accepting registrations November 8, 2010 for the conference. Although the Board has not formally approved conference fees, I am hopeful that they will be unchanged from those of the last conference. The highly successful FAPPO Bucks program will be continued. Please review the ongoing article in the newsletter for specifics about this program. Essay This year’s essay contest will be focused on a “Commitment to Integrity and Professionalism.” The deadline for entries is February 28, 2011. An entry form will be published soon. Golf Tournament The golf tournament is tentatively scheduled for April 17, 2011 Trade Show Once again the trade show will be “FREE” and we hope to meet last year’s incredible turnout. It will again be held at the Orange County Convention Center on April 18, 2010 from 12pm to 3pm. Attendance is free to all governmental personnel. A TRADE SHOW APPLICATION WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON.
